Day 1
After we removed Ella's fingers from the chain, ate breakfast and taken photos and said farewells; I was on my way - Salisbury, Amesbury and then on to some lovely quite roads following the River Avon. I met Arthur - a rather nice big horse, his shy friend and two very nice woman who said they would look up this site to follow the antics of an aged cyclist. That was at Figheldean. Then on to Pewsey and Marlborough, which had lots girls walking about with hockey sticks - must have some frisky blokes in Marlborough, who need sorting. After a bit of a hectic main road, I stopped at a garage for some cold water and met Allan,a keen cyclist, who had recently cycled the Pennines. He told me that there was a great cycle path I could have used instead of the main road, which went along a disused railway. I had started to check the Sustrans routes when planning but gave up as they never seemed to go where I wanted to. Should have stuck to it. I am staying at a nice campsite and it is a warm evening. I am typing this in the Red Bull... The staff think that I am writing a report for the Michelin Guide - we'll see what happens when I come to pay the bill. 102kms today ... the last 30 or so were a bit difficult but hopefully, I'll warm up.
Toodle pip.
